The Bench Room

A document binding workshop built around the comb, the punch and the trimmer

Peterhanun Limited is a Hong Kong document services company that treats binding as a craft rather than a checkout counter. Our bench room in Sheung Wan holds a punch rail, a comb opener, a paper drill, a guillotine trimmer and a rack of bound dossiers, and that is where every order is made by hand. We are not a copy centre and we are not a stationery shop. We take loose pages, loose drawings and loose annexes, and we return finished documents that hold together under daily handling in a busy office or a tender submission room.

Most of our work arrives from legal teams, engineering practices, training departments and administrative offices that need a fixed number of books on a fixed date. A tender pack has to be collated in the right order, punched on the right margin and bound so that the evaluating committee can open it flat. A training manual has to survive a full week of classroom use without pages escaping. An annual report has to look deliberate on a boardroom table. Those requirements drive every decision we make about paper, comb diameter and cover stock.

We keep the whole workflow under one roof so nothing is handed off to a stranger. Enquiries come through our contact page, we confirm a slot and a deadline, we print or receive the source pages, we punch and bind, and we deliver. Because the workshop is small and hand-driven, we can also absorb the awkward jobs that larger operations refuse: mixed paper sizes, tabbed divider sets, single-copy runs, foil-stamped covers and rebuild work on older bindings that are already falling apart.

Our stock bench covers Comb and Wire Binding, Tender Document Assembly, Training Manual Runs, Lamination and Foil Finishing, Same-Day Print Bursts and Archive Binding and Boxing. The sections below explain how each one fits together and how we plan a run from the moment a request reaches reception@peterhanun.lat.

Why Offices Choose the Bench

Measured twice, punched once, checked by hand

A bound document fails for predictable reasons: the punch margin drifts, the comb is the wrong diameter, the collation is out by one sheet, or the cover tears at the spine. We design our routine around those failure points so a finished pack behaves the way the reader expects.

Correct Comb Pitch

We match comb diameter to sheet count after measuring stock thickness, so a heavy report opens flat without straining the spine and a slim annex does not slide loose inside an oversized comb.

Clean Punch Margin

Every section is squared on the punch rail before the handle comes down. Consistent margins mean the bound edge reads as one straight block rather than a ragged stack of mismatched paper.

Ordered Collation

Tabbed dividers, revision sheets and signature pages are walked in reading order by hand. If a page sequence is ambiguous we call before we cut, never after.

Hand Checked Finish

The last step is a physical check of every copy: spine seated, corners square, cover label aligned, and page count confirmed against the job ticket before the box is taped.

Bound Dossier Rack

Six service dossiers hanging by their comb spines

Each dossier below is a service we run from the Sheung Wan bench. Comb spines alternate in oxide brown, moss green and bench teal, exactly as they come off our rack. Open any dossier for the full description on the services page.

Comb and Wire Binding

Our core service. Loose pages are punched on the rail and closed into a plastic comb or a wire spine so the document opens flat and stays together. Choose from a range of comb diameters and cover stocks for reports, proposals and manuals.

Tender Document Assembly

Tender packs must follow a published order and reach the submission desk on time. We collate forms, annexes and drawings, insert tabbed dividers, punch the correct margin and bind the finished set ready for sealing and delivery.

Urgent Run Open the dossier

Training Manual Runs

Classroom manuals take hard wear. We bind durable copies with sturdy covers and consistent tabbing so instructors can hand the same book to every delegate and expect the pages to survive the course.

Lamination and Foil Finishing

Covers, dividers and name panels are laminated for protection, and we add foil blocking and embossed finishing for documents that need a formal, presentation-grade face before a committee or a client.

Same-Day Print Bursts

When a meeting moves forward or a deadline tightens, we run short notice bursts through the bench and hand back bound copies the same day where the schedule allows, without skipping the quality check.

Archive Binding and Boxing

Records that must be kept for years get a firmer treatment. We bind archive volumes for long storage, label spines clearly and box the finished sets so they can be shelved, retrieved and re-read without damage.

How a Job Travels the Bench

From enquiry to finished box in five measured steps

The workshop runs on a simple sequence that keeps every party informed. We ask for the page count, the finished size, the number of copies and the deadline, then we quote a slot and a price. Once we have the source pages, either printed by us or delivered to the bench, the run is scheduled by size and finish so that long drying, laminating and boxing tasks do not hold up quick comb work.

During production the job ticket travels with the documents. It carries the comb colour, the cover specification and the collation notes, and it is signed at each stage. That ticket is also how we answer questions later: if a client calls about copy fourteen, we can trace exactly which punch block, comb batch and check note it came from. The habit costs a few minutes per job and prevents the expensive mistake of rebinding an entire run because one copy was assembled out of order.

At the end of the run we weigh the choice between speed and finish openly. A same-day print burst is trimmed and bound tight but skips cosmetic extras such as foil blocking. A formal tender submission takes the full finishing route with laminated covers and a checked spine label. We would rather tell you which lane your deadline fits than promise a finish the clock cannot carry.

Who We Bind For

Offices that need documents to behave in the room

Our typical clients are professional services teams scattered across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Legal practices send us hearing bundles and client reports. Engineering and surveying firms send tender submissions and technical annexes with folded drawings. Training providers send course manuals and assessment packs. Corporate administration teams send board papers, policy binders and annual reports. Each group has a different idea of what finished means, and the bench is flexible enough to meet all of them.

Because we are based in Sheung Wan, we sit close to the government offices, the Central business district and the ferry links that many of these teams use daily. Documents can be walked to the bench, bound and collected within the same working day when the schedule allows. For larger runs we arrange delivery across Hong Kong so that a completed tender pack or training set arrives where it is needed rather than waiting on a counter.

We also handle the quiet jobs that keep an office running: re-binding a worn policy manual, boxing three years of records for off-site storage, adding foil titles to a set of presentation covers, and running a single laminated name panel the morning before a ceremony. No order is too small for the bench, and no order is accepted without a realistic date attached to it.

Materials and Standards

Paper, comb and cover chosen for the life of the document

Binding quality depends on material decisions made before the first punch. We match comb diameter to the measured thickness of the finished block, allowing enough opening room for the reader to turn pages without cracking the spine. Covers are selected by use: a soft bone cover for an internal report, a laminated face for anything that will be passed around a table, and a heavier board for archive volumes that will sit on a shelf for years.

We keep a working range of comb colours on the rack, including the deep teal that has become our bench signature, the oxide brown used for formal tender sets and the moss green used to distinguish training material. Colour is never only decoration. A consistent comb colour across a series of binders tells a reader at a glance that the volumes belong together, and that small signal saves time every time a shelf is searched.

All finishing is done with solid materials and traditional methods. Lamination is applied as a protective film, foil blocking is pressed into the cover rather than printed on it, and trimming is done on a clamp-bar guillotine so the cut edge is straight and square. We do not use effects that fade, peel or discolour, because a document that looks tired after a month undermines the work inside it.

Booking the Bench

Tell us the page count, the copies and the deadline

If you can answer those three questions, we can quote a slot quickly. Where a job is urgent, say so in the subject line and we will tell you honestly what the bench can carry that day.

Step One - Send the Details

Use the contact form or email reception@peterhanun.lat with page count, finished size, copies and the date the documents are needed.

Step Two - Confirm the Slot

We reply with a production slot, a size and finish recommendation, and a clear price. Nothing starts until you approve it.

Step Three - Deliver the Pages

Bring files or printed pages to the Sheung Wan bench, or ask us to print from supplied files as part of the run.

Step Four - Collect or Receive

Finished documents are checked, boxed and either collected at the bench or delivered across Hong Kong on the agreed date.

Common Questions

Answers before you book the bench

How soon can a job be finished? Short comb runs can often be completed the same working day when the bench is free and the source pages are ready. Tender assembly, lamination and archive boxing take longer because they include finishing and checking stages, so we quote a realistic date rather than a hopeful one.

Can you print as well as bind? Yes. We can print from supplied files and bind the output as one continuous job, or we can bind pages that you deliver already printed. Many clients send files by email and collect the bound books from the Sheung Wan bench.

Do you handle small orders? Yes. A single laminated panel, one re-bound policy manual or three archive boxes are all normal work for the bench. Small jobs are scheduled around larger runs so that both are ready on time.

Which comb colours are available? Our working rack carries bench teal, oxide brown, moss green, bone and charcoal. Where a series of binders must match, we list the comb colour on the job ticket so reprints and later volumes stay consistent.
